高等学校
こうとうがっこう【高等学校】
(1)中学校教育の基礎の上に, 高等普通教育および専門教育を行う学校。 1947年(昭和22), 学制改革により発足。 全日制(三年)の課程のほか, 定時制・通信制(三年以上)の課程がある。 高校。
(2)旧制で, 中学校四年修了者および同等以上の学力のある男子に高等普通教育を施した学校。 修業年限は三年。 1894年(明治27)高等中学校を改組して第一高等学校以下五校を発足させ, 順次全国の主要都市に置いた。 帝国大学の予科の役割を果たし, 戦後の学制改革で新制大学に吸収された。 旧制高校。
